Whatever the reason may be, this is one trend that is sure to last for awhile. Here are some tips that can help you layer your rugs perfectly.
Finding your color pattern:
-Bottom Rug: a simple, neutral rug is best. A neutral rug creates a easy neutral background. The most common bottom rugs are jute, sisal & seagrass. These rugs are usually inexpensive. and make great rugs because of there durability and neutrality.
-Top Rug: this is the rug that has a color & a pattern. This rug is the focal point. This rug will draw your attention to the area and help it to feel more intimate & cozy. Try to keep them complementing in color and pattern. If they don’t blend well it can make for a chaotic look.
Shapes & Sizing:
- Bottom Rug: needs to be large enough so that you have at lest 12”-18” showing all around. Making sure that the bottom rug sits nicely under furniture. A general rule is you want the legs of furniture sitting on the rug. So in a living room you want to have the front legs of the furniture placed on the rug. Under a dining table you want the rug to be large enough so that when the chairs are pulled out they still sit on the rug.
- Top Rug: you can play with all sorts of different shapes and sizes. You can even turn the rug to a angle and this creates more visual interest and helps define the space.
